Winter has come early for some of our Sunrun customers, and the last thing we want you to worry about when you’re suiting up for icy temperatures is your solar. Here are a few tips about what to expect from your solar system during the winter.

1. Shorter days: Despite unpredictable weather patterns, one thing we know will show up in the winter months is shorter days. Fewer hours in the day means less sunshine on your roof. But don’t fret! You’ve got plenty of savings from the summer to compensate for the shorter days. Also, conditions like snow on the ground can temporarily boost electricity production because the snow reflects light just like a mirror. With that in mind, be sure to keep your electricity usage at bay to maximize your savings.

2. Safety first: Snow on your panels? No biggie. Please don’t remove snow from your panels yourself – it can get icy up there. Snow should slide off once the sun comes out and heats the panels. In the meantime, watch where you park your car or walk.

A few days of missed production caused by snowfall is nothing to worry about, because snowfall was taken into consideration when your system was designed. And remember, if you’re a Sunrun solar service customer, we guarantee your energy production for savings you can count on. If your system underproduces, we’ll pay you the difference.
